After being inspired initially through the shadows she saw on the grass of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out in developing a process that did not depict the subject in a 2-dimensional picture. The subject becomes a replica of its own, while the canvas is carrying its own interpretation painted by the object, especially when it's a live thing or food item, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is the photograph. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved through the combination of two methods of painting and photographing. It creates two-dimensional flattened image. Meade has integrated her painted models within the space of 3D that surrounds them. Their interaction and this created world can be achieved. Through this, Meade has removed the borders between painting, photography and performing.
